Our breeding program is centered around producing a genetically healthy Labrador Retriever. The only way to do that correctly is to take genetic testing seriously as both a breeder and a owner. It is our priority to provide you a healthy puppy that excels in life. We only ask that your new puppies health become your priority too. This is why we provide a written guarantee with every puppy we sell.
We guarantee that your puppy will be free of Hip and Elbow Dysplasia up to the age of 24 months. Our guarantee states that your puppy will pass OFA testing for Hip and Elbow Dysplasia. For this guarantee to be valid the puppy must have their hips and elbows x-rayed by the age of 24 months. The x-rays must be submitted to the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) for evaluation and grading befor 24 months of age. If your puppy fails the evaluation, we will apply the full purchase price of your puppy towards the price of a future Sugarhaven puppy. We will need to see all documented proof and also reserve the right to have our Veterinarian check out the puppy for the guarantee to be honored. Owner accepts responsibility if the dog has been overfed, underfed, bred, improperly exercised, transferred to a new owner or obtained an injury for any reason to include excessive jumping or abuse, then the guarantee is void.
We guarantee that your puppy will pass their eye CERF (Canine Eye Registry Foundation) exam prior to 12 months of age. Exams must be performed by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologists and the Canine Eye Registry Foundation must have rejected the application for this guarantee to be valid. You need to provide us the rejected CERF stating that the puppy has failed and that a hereditary eye disease was found that will affect the puppies over all life.
These guarantees are dependent upon demonstration that the puppy has received adequate care and nutrition. It is very important that a owner understands that their puppy will still be growing for the next 24 months and that any excessive jumping down off things or jumping in the air for a frisbee can affect the development of the puppy/dog.
Annual checkups will help you maintain your Lab's health throughout it's life. Your new puppies first line of defense starts with you and your Vet is your backup.
Every puppy will come to their new home having their first set of shots, deworming, dew claws removed, examined by a Vet, and a packet of information that includes their health record, their limited registration AKC paperwork and our written guarantee. We also microchip them with a life time enrollment through AKC Reunite. We require that you have your puppy examined by your Vet within 48 hours from pickup.
We can't stress enough how important proper healthcare is for your new companion. It is our responsibility as a breeder to breed healthy dogs and provide you with the foundation that allows your dog to live a healthy life. It is your responsibility as a owner to continue our hard work and provide your new puppy with the proper healthcare, nutrition, grooming and most of all love to live a long and healthy life. Remember the health of your Labrador Retriever is very important and you as the owner are their first line of defense against an illness.
